Cagsawa Ruins

One of the popular tourist attractions here in Albay Philippines besides the Mayon Volcano is the Cagsawa Ruins, from an 18 Century church built back in 1724 and destroyed during a volcanic eruption of Mount Mayon in 1814. These church ruins are located inside what is known today at the Mount Mayon Volcano National Park, and has been recommended as one of the top destination to visit here in the Philippines.

The Cagsawa Ruins are about seven (7) miles from the Mayon Volcano, so it is recommended that you bring a camera with a medium to long zoom lens, this will help you get some really awesome photos, like the one seen above. Today you can see the belfry and some ruins of the convent that have survived the strongest recorded volcanic eruption that took place on February 1, of 1814.

On this site is also the Cagsawa National Museum which offers a nice selection of old photographs that show the early destruction that took place here, other exhibits include various geological as-well-as archeological pieces.
