Angeles City is located in the province of Pampanga, in the Philippines and is a highly urbanized city, with a population nearing 500,000 people. The nearby Clark International Airport serves Angeles City, and makes traveling there from Manila or any other destination quite easy and hassle free. In 1998 "MoneySense Magazine" listed Angeles City as the 15th top destination in the Philippines to live.
The local economy of Angeles City was hurt quite bad by the closing of the Clark Air Force Base, which was the largest military establishment of the United States that was located off US soil. The economy was further devastated by the 1991 volcanic eruption of Mount Pinatubo, however by 1993 the entire area started to remove the volcanic ash and the former US military base became known as the "Clark Special Economic Zone. During the catastrophic eruption there where no reported casualties, this was due in part because of the early evacuation, where over 18,000 individuals where transported to both the Subic Naval Base in Zambales and Guam.
Today, both Angeles City and Clark form a business hub that incorporates local business, tourism, aviation and some industry that has provided a vibrant economy, where jobs where once hard to find. In recent years the entertainment industry has really taken off, today you will find several casinos and other gaming establishments here, helping to make central Luzon the in place to vacation.
