Puka Shell Beach

Puka Shell Beach, is a beautiful and pristine 1300 meters long sandy white beach located on the very north end of Boracay Island, and is the second largest beach on Boracay after White Beach. As its name suggest, it is famous for its Puka shell, which is used by locals to build Necklaces, anklets and bracelets.

Large amounts of Puka shells were collected from this beach during the 60s and 70s as these shells were very popular for creating fashion jewelry at that time. In the 1970's Liz Taylor made the Puka Shell famous in Hollywood and throughout the world, by wearing them and drawing attention to there natural beauty.

Today the Puka shell is endangered and it is against Philippines law to remove Puka shells from the beach, lthough there is hardly any Puka Shells on the beach today, one can still find some if you look hard enough.

Puka shell beach is much quieter than White beach, and a lot more beautiful with slightly stronger waves and the water depth quickly increases here. One needs to be very careful swimming at Puka shell beach.

Today Puka Shell beach is home to Eco Village, a 15 room, four star resort located on a hill overlooking the Sulu Sea, with each of the rooms offering a breathtaking view.
